Blue Spix
I chose to paint the blue Spix's macaw because I was drawn to its story of resilience. This rare Brazilian macaw species was once declared extinct in the wild due to habitat loss, overexploitation, and illegal trade, but it is now on a path to recovery thanks to conservation efforts, including breeding programs and habitat reintroduction. My painting aims to capture the unique beauty of the Spix and to spotlight the urgent need for ongoing environmental stewardship. By focusing on this recovering species, I hope to inspire awareness and action towards the preservation of endangered animals. In this artwork, I used acrylic paints on canvas to depict a pair of Blue Spix's Macaws, set against a pixelated background. This choice of background symbolises the species' path to recovery within artificial environments.
