The Approach
“The Approach” explores a beloved area known as Lamb’s Knoll, a still-quiet corner of Zion, Utah, sitting just beyond the National Park’s Border. This piece intends to capture a moment, the approach to a climbing area as the October sun settles behind red rocks, the crisp scent of sagebrush as it’s rustled by a soft wind, the slowly changing foliage shifting and crinkling beneath your feet. My time spent in South Western Utah has always lingered as profound moments of connection with the landscape around me, yearning to be recounted as the ethereal moments and memories they become. “The Approach” intends to describe and explore not just the landscape, but the connections one can develop with the natural world around them.

I work in layers of acrylic on canvas, slowly building upon a silhouetted background with puzzle-like pieces of color, shapes, and line work, into recognizable though mystical and often psychedelic landscapes. This observation, in practice, is deeply playful - attempting to invoke a childlike wonder for the natural spaces we occupy.
