Moving Light

Oil on fine linen. This scene depicts the trees and marsh near my home but it is really a study in moving light. On an early autumn afternoon in New England the sun seems to move fast when it is observed shining down through trees and every few minutes the shadows seem to change. The artist is forced to make choices and to stick with those decisions of where the light and shadows fall. It is a very peaceful place and deer sometimes wander along the edge of the marsh as they graze.
