Big Clouds

This midsize piece is painted on Strathmore 5-ply, plate-finished, Bristol board, which is not a traditional watercolor surface. I've used it for nearly forty years because I love the way the water and pigment interact on the smooth surface and leave the visible surface stains and watermarks. In this painting I was working to capture the undulating movement of those beautiful front range mountains in Colorado.
