Et lys, et lys...
This painting is an exploration of the painterly challenges of creating light and atmosphere in a painting. It's painted in oil on plywood and built up with thick impasto and glazed in multiple layers. The motif which shows literally a light in the darkness symbolizes the search for hope in a society and a world which is facing an uncertain future. The title "Et lys, et lys..." is Norwegian for "A light, a light..." and is a line borrowed from the famous Norwegian song "Et lys imot mørketida" by Trygve Hoff (1938-1987), translated "A light against the Polar Night".
